Communication Systems Designer
Based in Cambridge
Objectives
Work in conjunction with the System Design Team in the specification, design, and modelling
of Broadband Digital Radio systems.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Engage in the key area of high-level radio system specification and modelling. This will
encompass all areas of physical layer design including RF channel modelling, frequency
colouring, antenna modelling, radio system modelling, DSP Algorithmic design and
implementation.
The scope of this post is wide ranging and as such the jobholder will liaise with a highly
motivated skilled development team.
Ensure that all records, specifications and procedural instructions are properly drafted and
maintained in order to provide information to management and any other interested party as
and when required.

Education and Qualification
Essential
- Knowledge of radio frequency planning and propagation issues, antenna design, wideband
RF/microwave radio architectures
- Understanding of advanced modulation and signal recovery schemes, DSP algorithms and
implementation strategies. In particular with respect to dedicated DSP processing
engines as well as FPGA/ASIC implementation
Desirable
- Knowledge of Communication protocols in particular TCP/IP and ATM
Experience
Essential
- Experience in some or all of the following software areas: C/C++, Matlab, ADS, dedicated
DSP languages
Personal Aptitudes
- Able to work under pressure and to tight timescales
Special Aptitudes
- Able to work on own initiative but aware of when to seek advice
Personal Circumstances
- The jobholder must, on occasion, be willing to work long hours if the needs of the
company require it.
- Must be able to travel, including overseas if necessary
- Live within commuting distance of Cambridge
