FPGA Firmware Engineer
Based in Cambridge
Objectives
You will assist in further development of our products to optimise cellular backhaul over the
company’s VectaStar microwave backhaul product
Key Areas of Responsibility
Develop and test firmware; integrate functional modules into the company’s product
Liaise with members of the Development Team and Product Test and Verification to assist in
hardware/software debugging
Ensure that all records, specifications and procedural instructions are properly drafted and
maintained in order to provide information to management and any other interested party as
and when required

Education and Qualification
Essential
- High quality technical education; for example, a 2:1 or higher degree in computer
science, electronic engineering or a closely-related discipline
Experience
Essential
- FPGA development and debugging, preferably using Verilog
- Targeting structured HDL to modern, large-scale (>250K gate equivalent) FPGAs, e.g.
Xilinx Virtex 2/Spartan 3 or similar
- Excellent understanding of digital hardware and FPGAs, and the balance between firmware
and software.
- Knowledge and implementation experience of networking protocols, especially Ethernet,
but also ATM, SDH/PDH and IP.
Desirable
- Wireless communication systems, in particular cellular backhaul (HSPA/WCDMA/GSM)
- Wire-speed datapath processing for high speed networks such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet
- Data processing algorithms such as compression
- High speed digital board design
- Software development in one or more high-level languages (C and Python especially)
- Revision control systems (at least one of CVS, svn, Monotone, Darcs, git)
- Developing in a Linux environment
