Guidelines for use of the logo

Which logo and where?

Arrangements of the logotype and symbol

There are two positions for the symbol in relation to the logotype that give two different arrangement of the logo:

  • symbol left
  • symbol top

General rules for choice of logo

The choice of which logo to use needs to take account of

  • purpose (branding, advertisement…)
  • surrounding material
  • substrate (the material to which the logo is applied)
  • the method of reproducing the logo (print, vinyl…)
  • environment

Where the proportion of the placement is wide then the ‘symbol left’ arrangement is suitable.

Where the proportions of the placement are narrow then the symbol top arrangement is suitable. For a given width, the symbol top allows for a larger reproduction of the logo. The symbol top arrangement is ideally suited for vehicle livery, signage etc.

Where the proportions of the placement are equal, typically the ‘symbol top’ arrangement is suitable.

Where questions arise the opinion of a graphics professional should be considered.
